Book Condition:   Good with no dust jacket; Ads dated November 17th, 1874. Leisure Hour Series. Bound in tan cloth with black lettering & decoration front and rear covers. 1st American edition, probably the true first, though there is some controversy as to whethe the English edition pre-dates the American. Both entered into circulation November 1874 . This copy is sound, though the binding is mildly slanted. Covers are soiled with heavier staining to the rear cover. Text is generally clean, through there is dampstaining to early pages, beginning at Contents and ending at page 50, mainly confined to margins, though drifting into text through page 14. Text is legible throughout. Closed edges soiled. Small brown spot lower corner of last ad page. Page corners creased here and there. Light fraying to cloth at head and tail of spine. Mild bumps ab lower corners. "Author's Edition." First Edition. Hardcover.
